If you are a iPod 2G Touch owner, there is good news for you. The folks at Dev-Team have released a software patch for the iPod 2G Touch having the codename 24kPwn which allows you to perform an untethered jailbreak on the ipod 2G Touch . The term untethered means your iPod 2G Touch won’t need to jailbreak your iPod 2G Touch every time you reboot. This patch will always make your iPod 2G Touch susceptible to jailbreak no matter what version of firmware Apple releases. Originally the Dev-Team were not planning on releasing this exploit until Apple released the next version of the iPhone. That way Apple wouldn’t be able to patch it, however, they were required to release it early since another company found this exploit somehow and began selling it.
The folks at Dev-Team have currently not packaged this software patch into an jailbreak tool that is automated yet. If, for some reason, you cannot wait for the release of the jailbreak patch software officially, you can try QuickFreedom, which is a GUI. The iPod 2G Touch jailbreak software developed by a developer on iPod Touch Fans Forums. If you use any iPod 2G Touch jailbreak software, including QuickFreedom, you do so at your own risk as QuickPWN.com is not responsible for anything that happens to your iPod 2G Touch. If you plan on trying this jailbreak you should join the forums and post your experience there so it helps out others. For the original ipod 1G Touch simply use Pwnage Tool to create a firmware image and restore with the .ipsw using iTunes. Pwnage Tool does not currently support the iPod 3G Touch.
In the end, the advantages of jailbreaking far exceed the disadvantages. Jailbreaking is a very useful process. In a sense, jailbreaking frees the hands of your iPod Touch and allow it to be used to its full capabilities. It will also open up a whole new world of functionality. However it is up to you to do the research and see if its right for you. It should be noted that jailbreaking the iphone and iPod Touch and are similar processes which mostly achieve the same goals.
